Community

Our mission statement ‘Following Jesus, Serving the Community’ shows our commitment to Sherwood and the world in which we live.
We run a Wellbeing Café (see below)
& a monthly Messy Church (see Children & Young People page).

We are involved in various activities in the local community including Nourish, Sherwood Art Week and Sherwood Open Gradens. We support Sharing Sherwood and Nottingham Fixers Repair Cafe, which take place on our premises. We continue to look for ways to get to know our neighbours better and to serve the needs of the local area.

Foodbank and Sharewear

We support Mount Zion Foodbank in Radford by volunteering and by taking donations of food and toiletries.
We have a donation point at Sherwood Methodist every
Wednesday from 10am to 12pm.

We also have a donation point for Sharewear Clothing Scheme,
every Wednesday 10am to 12pm.
Please note, no Sharewear donations can be taken outside this time,
but St Jude's Church Mapperley have a 24/7 donation container in their car park.

Giving

As a church we donate regularly to a number of UK and overseas projects. Each year at our church council we elect a local charity to support as a church for a year, in the past these have included The Nottingham Winter Shelter and Maggie’s Centre.

Justice Issues

We are passionate about justice in all areas including fairtrade, society and the environment:

FAIRTRADE

We are a fair trade church and support trade justice by using Indigo Fair Trade tea and coffee at our church services and events.

We invite you to join with JPIT in praying for justice. You can find the weekly prayer, or download the daily prayers here.

We sell fair trade products after the 10.30am service. These include teas, coffees, chocolates, biscuits and cleaning products.

As part of the Nottingham North East Circuit we are a member of Nottingham Citizens, a coalition of institutions from civil society including churches and other faiths, universities, schools, trade unions and charities.

Our Quiet Garden is a small landscaped area that is accessible to the public and suitable for wheelchair users. Find out more about it and our commitment to the natural world on our "Green Living" page.
